Thailand Cracks Down on Illegal Foreign Workers and Fraudulent Businesses

Thailand has launched one of its largest crackdowns on illegal foreign workers and businesses using Thai nominee owners to bypass laws. In December 2024, a nationwide operation led to 442 raids, resulting in the arrest of over 1,000 people, including 300 foreigners (Source: Bangkok Post).

Fraudulent Businesses and Money Laundering

Authorities uncovered businesses using Thai nationals as proxies to hide foreign ownership—an illegal practice in Thailand. These activities reportedly generated over 3.6 billion baht ($105 million) in revenue.

Illegal Foreign Workers Targeted

The crackdown also focused on unauthorized foreign workers in industries like tourism, construction, and entertainment. Some of the most notable cases include:
– Russian taxi drivers in Phuket
– Japanese tour guides in Chiang Mai
– British DJs in Pattaya
